US Congressman. He was successful in the mercantile business when he relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1845. He became presiding officer of the city council, a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1860 and member of the State Senate 1862 to 1865. In 1865, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-ninth and Fortieth Congresses, serving until 1869. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed mercantile pursuits and served again in the Ohio State Senate in 1880 and 1881.
