Martha Catherine Froehlich Covey was the daughter of Margaret Claggett and Joseph Froehlich.

She was a 1934 graduate of Hansen High School, a 1937 graduate of Albion State Normal School and received her Idaho Lifetime Teaching Certificate in 1939.She taught for six years in Idaho schools and served as a clerk supervisor at Ogden Arsenal during World War II. After the war, she moved to Salt Lake City and graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor's of Science degree in elementary education in 1947 and resumed her teaching career in Salt Lake City and retired after 29 years.

She met Francis D. Covey in Salt Lake City , and they were married June 5, 1949 at Twin Falls, Idaho.

In 2003 they moved to Austin, Texas where she was active as Girl Scouts volunteer and St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She was a member of Mount Olympus Chapter 23, Order of the Eastern Star, served as worthy matron from 1981 to 1982 and was Grand Martha in the Grand Chapter in 1983.

She is survived by a daughter, Margie, and husband, David Gordon,, a son, Bruce Covey and wife Sydney and two step-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers.
