John H. Bettis, seventy six years of age, died at his home in this city,last Sunday night after a lingering illness with kidney and lung,trouble.
He had been ailing for more than a year but was confined to his bed only eleven,days when released from great pain and suffering by,death.

Funeral services
were held at the home yesterday, conducted by Rev. S. Carothers, pastor of the,M.E. Church, after which the remains were,placed on board the east bound afternoon train and taken to Clio, Iowa where internment was made in the Greer cemetery, beside kindred dust.

John H. Bettis was born in Louisburg, Mason county, Kentucky, Oct 20, 1832 and died Apr 13, 1909, aged 76 years, 5 months, and 22 days. He removed from Kentucky about fifty years ago and located in Iowa. He came to Missouri six years ago and secured a home in Princeton where he remained until his death. He was the father of thirteen children by his first marriage, ten of whom survive him. In the year, 1893, Nov 23, he was married to Mrs. J. A. Ross, who survives him. She was the mother of eight children by her first marriage, four are living. No children were born in their last wedlock. All their children are married and have families of their own. In early life he was converted and joined the Methodist church. In these latter years he had connected himself with the Christian Union Church in which communion he remained until death.

He lived a devoted Christian life and his voice was often heard in earnest public prayer. His brother, Lawson Bettis, who lives in Monroe county, Iowa, the only surviving member of his father's family was with him the last few days and was present at the funeral.
