SMITHVILLE - Benjamin Thomas Cheek Jr., 91, died May 13, 2007, at Daniel Rehab Center in Fulton. Services are today at 2 p.m. at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Smithville with the Revs. Lloyd Minor and Lee Gardner officiating. Burial will follow at Smithville Cemetery. Visitation will continue today until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Cheek was born April 16, 1916, in Smithville to the late Benjamin Thomas Sr. and Jodie Crump Cheek. He was a lifelong resident of Smithville and was a self-employed sawmiller and farmer for many years. He began working for Filtrol Bentonite Co. in 1963 as a heavy equipment operator and retired in 1986. He was a member of Smithville Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Carter; and three infant siblings. He is survived by his wife, Laurene Murphy Cheek of Smithville; daughters, Phyllis Morgan of Smithville and Charlotte Pearson of Hatley; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers will be Boosie Leech, Denver Wright, William Holland, Thomas Carroll, Randle Gray and John Chrestman. Memorials may be made to Smithville Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 52, Smithville, MS 38870.
