James Burrell 1890 - 1935
Beloved Grandson of Nathan and Harriett Cole Burrell.
Beloved Grandson of Seth and Eseline Brewer.
Son of John Burrell and Celia Brewer Burrell.
Brother of Sylvester Burrell and Ella Burrell Redner.
Uncle Jims father, John Burrell had died on April 29, 1909 in Tuscarora, NY and the Census shows, that a year later, Uncle Jim, Grandma Celia and my father went to Carlton, NY to live.
Records show that Grandma Celia died May 5, 1911 and that Uncle Jim was admitted to Craig Colony on October 7, 1912.
This means that Grandma Celia kept Uncle Jim with her until the end of her earthly life.
Aunt Ella, Uncle Jims sister, was alot older than Uncle Jim and so I am assuming she took Uncle Jim in until his admission date.
Aunt Ella lost her son Daniel Redner in September of 1912 and a month later, Uncle Jim was admitted to Craig Colony.
I do believe Aunt Ella was too devestated to take care of Uncle Jim after her sons death.
James Burrell was a resident of Craig Colony for over 22 years.
James passed away with pneumonia at the age of 44.
Uncle Jim, I wish I had known you, I truly do.
Donna Bonning....great person that you are...I want to Thank You so much for searching out the "forgotten" at Craig Colony, Sonyea, NY and remembering them by taking pictures of their stones and putting up a Memorial site for them...and when doing that, found my Uncle Jim.
Donna, you graciously transferred Uncle Jims Memorial Site over to me...you didn't have to do that...I always thought you deserved to have him with you...as you were the one who found him and has never forgotten Uncle Jim or anyone who lived there at Craig Colony. Donna continues to this day to visit the Cemtery and leave flowers for all who are interred there.
Donna...you are truly an Angel!
Craig Colony as it was known is no longer there...the Cemetery is there...a reminder of all the residents who lived there and suffered so much from seizures. The late 60's..early 70's they came out with Dilantin and Seizure drugs to help people who suffered so with this. Craig Colony closed because the "lack of" residents...Thank God...thanks in part...to Dilantin.
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes,

neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be
