This is a close-up of the inscription on the side of the slender monument opposite the graves. It reads: "THOMAS IRBY HICKS / Born / Nov. 8, 1827 / Died / Aug. 21, 1893 / Aged / 65 Y'rs, 9 Mo's,13 d's. // Joyful thought, we can go to him, / Heaven's not very far away, / There immortal eyes shall view him, / In the realms of endless day."
