She attended Jeffersonville High School and Spencerian Business College, graduated second in her class from Jewish Hospital School of Nursing and practiced her profession first as a private registered nurse and later as a Jefferson County public health nurse.
She was a member of the Bethel E & R Church in St. Matthews; St. Lukes United Church of Christ in Jeffersonville, Ind.; the Richlawn Garden Club; St. Matthews Woman's Club; and Jewish Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae.
Born in Louisville on Sept. 18, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Elmer G. and Lena (Spangler) Bales, who was a past director of Clark County (Ind.) Welfare Department. She was the wife of the late Dr. Raymond Myers Evans, Sr., a general surgeon who practiced in Louisville for 36 years.
Survivors include two children, Sue Hollis Evans, Louisville, and Raymond Myers Evans, Jr., Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren – Blair T. Rodgers, London, England; Hollis Rodgers Peterson, Washington, D.C.; Dr. Raymond Myers Evans, III, Orlando, Fla.; and Clay Wisdom Evans, Athens, Ga.; and two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Laine and Joshua Davis Peterson.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. on July 26, at the Pearson's Funeral Home in Louisville. Entombment was at the Resthaven Memorial Park.
The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Mint Jubilee Cancer Resource Center at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center and Hospice of Louisville.
