Mrs. Harriet L. Cox Dies; Came of Pioneer Family
Sister of Well-Known Indianapolis Man Had Been Lifelong Resident of Indiana
Mrs. Harriet Landers Cox, 76 years old, died at her home, 1110 North Alabama Street, yesterday morning. Mrs. Cox was born near Landersdale, Morgan County, Indiana, where her father William Landers, the first settler of Madison township, located in the spring of 1819. Her mother, Delilah Stone Landers, entertained the commissioners from Corydon, the old state capital, in their journey to Marion County to locate the Capital at Indianapolis.
Mrs. Cox was one of a family of three daughters and eleven sons. Of these only John Landers, a brother, 719 North Pennsylvania Street, survives her. Mrs. Cox was a sister of Franklin Landers and Jackson Landers, old and well known residents of Indianapolis. Mrs. Cox was married to John B. Cox, September 20, 1853. Mr. Cox died in 1865. There were born three children, Mrs. Flora C. Matthews, wife of James L. Matthews, president of the Farmers Bank at Mooresville, Indiana; Mrs. Emma S. Stucky, wife of Dr. Thomas E. Stucky, 1110 North Alabama Street, and Mrs. Ida B. Sheets, who is dead. Mrs. Cox is also survived by John Cox Sheets, an only grandson, who resides on the farm in Morgan County entered by Abner Cox, his great grandfather.
Mrs. Cox had lived all her life in Morgan and Marion Counties. She united with the Methodist church in 1858. She was a consistent member of that denomination to the time of her death. Her amiable and generous disposition brought her a large circle of loving friends. A short service will be held at the home at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. All friends are invited. The funeral will take place at Mooresville M. E. church Tuesday to which all friends of the family also are invited. ---Indianapolis Star, Sunday, March 5th.
The funeral services were held here at the M. E. church Tuesday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. E. R. Vest of Shelbyville, assisted by Revs. J. W. McFall, and J. B. Likely of this place and E. P. Jewett of Indianapolis. The attendance was large. Interment was at the cemetery here.

She married Dr. Amos Wilson Reagan on November 7, 1871 in Morgan County, Indiana and is listed with him in the 1880 census. They must have divorced as he remarried in 1882.
