Pauline (Polly) Elizabeth Lathem, 84, of Newark, DE, passed away Saturday April 7, 2007 at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center in Rising Sun, MD. Mrs. Lathem was born in Steubenville, OH on December 5, 1922, the daughter of the late John and Mabel Vandine Thompson. She retired from the VA Hospital in Elsmere and served as a shop steward there. Polly was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Newark. Polly served as a board member of the Newark Housing Authority and member and volunteer at the Newark Senior Center. She also was a representative on the Calvert Manor Residents Council and an active volunteer for the Democratic Party. She loved to play cards and was an avid BINGO player. She is survived by her 6 children, Robert Henry Lathem, Jr of Claymont, Pauline Rutter of New Castle, Arnetta Huffman, Irene Sanchez and Richard Lathem, all of Newark and James Lathem of New Castle; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by hr husband Robert H. Lathem, Sr.
