Wife of Capt. Daniel Baker

According to Massachusetts death documents, her parents were:

Benjamin Thacher
1796 – 1860

Myrinda Baker
1799 – 1835

When she married Daniel Baker, she was listed as Sukey Thacher. Some have assumed that her maiden name was Snow, but it was just her middle name which was used by several other members of her family as was her first name Sukey.

Explanation:
Sukey Snow (1771-1807) married Freeman Hopkins (1769-1812). One of their children was Sukey Snow Hopkins (1799-1819) who was the first wife of Benjamin Thacher. They were married on Apr 2, 1818. Sukey, the 2nd, died in 1819.

When Benjamin Thacher married for a second time he chose Myrinda Baker, and they named their first daughter Sukey Snow Thacher. Sukey Thacher was therefore the third woman in the family to use the first and middle name.

Sukey Snow Thacher married Daniel Baker on Mar 23 1820. Their children were:

Jarius Henry Baker
1846 – 1913

Benjamin Thacher Baker
1848 – 1940

Mary Thacher Baker
1852 – 1943

When one examines this story it is no wonder that there has been confusion. Too many Sukeys, Snows and Bakers.
