Robert was born in Neptune, New Jersey. His family later moved to Whippany.
He enlisted in the Marines 21 January 1966, at the Newark Recruiting Office.
When he arrived in Vietnam, Robert was assigned to the 81's Mortar Platoon with H & S Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Robert died as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds to the right temple, right shoulder, right buttocks and lower back from hostile mortar fire in the vicinity of Gio Linh and 3 kilometers south of Con Thien during Operation Beaver Track.
Robert was single and served his country for 1
year, 5 months and 15 days and was KIA #14,316.
Tour of duty unknown.
He was 20 years, 11 months and 21 days old and died 9 days before his 21st birthday.
Survived by his parents, John R and Alice Slattery, 3 brother, Michael, John and Billy and 3 sisters, Alecia, Patricia and Nancy all of 14
Crescent St, Whippany, New Jersey.
