CONOVER - Mary Elizabeth Smoot Ballard, 76, of Hopewell Church Road, Catawba, died Dec. 11, 1996, at her residence. Born Aug. 31, 1920 in Statesville, she was a daughter of Nathan N. and Aquilla Allen Smoot, Sr.
A member of Hopewell United Methodist in Sherrills Ford, she was a Sunday school teacher of the Adult Ladies and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyce B. Ballard; a brother, Nathan Smoot Jr.; a sister, Janice Hepler; and a grandchild, Kenneth E. Ballard.
Survivors include three sons, Boyce H. Ballard and the Rev. Macon N. Ballard of Catawba and Charles B. Ballard of Newton; two sisters, Norma Dixon and Joann Pierce of Statesville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Keys Pendleton and W. C. Cockman at 2 p.m. Saturday at her church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at Drum Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
