Barney died March 22 in Gallup. She was born May 2, 1918 in Mexican Springs into the Red Running into the Water People Clan for the Red House People Clan.
Barney was a lifelong resident of Mexican Springs and was involved with the Mexican Springs senior citizens. She was employed with the Navajo Nation C.E.T.A. As a young girl she was a rancher. During the last few years Barney was a resident of Red Rock Care Center.
She is survived by her brother, Henry Kinlicheenie; sister, Glenabah Hoskie; 20 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchidlren.
Barney was preceded in death by her husband John Bean Barney, Sr.; father, Kinlicheenie Jones; mother, Mae Catron Kinlicheenie; brothers, Frank Catron, Tommy Catron; sisters, Sally Draper Bailey, Nettie Morris, Mabel Billie, Elsie Nelson and Rachel Redhouse.
Pallbearers will be Alvin Morris, Darryl Morris, Ssgt USMS Eric Morris, A1C USAF Chris H. Morris, Elderick Morris and Melvin Chavez.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Mexican Springs Chapter House.
