Alan Lincoln Horton, 87, of Palm Springs, CA died of
natural causes. He was born in Salem, NE on June 29, 1919
to Benjamin and Irene Horton. His family moved to Los
Angeles, CA in 1925. He was in the grocery business. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 in Europe. He moved to Desert Hot Springs, CA in 1946. In June of 1947, he met Rowena Rogers and then married her on August 24, 1947 in Pico, CA. He built and opened El Pueblo Market in May, 1947. In 1957, he opened Horton's Market in Desert Hot Springs.
He was very active in Desert Hot Springs Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Angel View Crippled Children's Foundation, served on the DHS Water Board and was a member of the Palm Springs Polo Club. He is survived by his wife, Rowena; son Joseph (Bernie) Horton of Florida; daughter Janice Horton of Hawaii; and son Roger Horton of Palm Springs, CA.
Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, CA, with Forest Lawn Cathedral City in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorials to Alan & Rowena Horton Scholarship Fund for graduates of DHS High School, P.O. Box 2005, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32170.
