GUNTOWN - Marvin E. "Gene" Barnett, 68, died Saturday, April 23, 2005, at his home in Guntown after a long illness. He was a former employee of Hardins Bakery in Tupelo. He was a retired employee of the City of Saltillo. He was a member of the Mayfield House of God and a U.S. Army veteran. A loving father, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Merle Floyd and Bro. David Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Saltillo City Cemetery.

Survivors include four daughters, Terri McCullough and Chuck of Lilburn, Ga., Kimberly Williams and Chris of Memphis, Becky Sanders and fiance, Robert Faust, of Palmetto, and Angie Camp and Mike of Tucson, Ariz.; three sons, David Barnett Lawrence and Janice of Tupelo, Tracy Barnett and Sherry of Saltillo, and Timmy Barnett and April of Guntown; four sisters, Reba Floyd and Merle of Guntown, Edith Patterson and John of Guntown, and Delphia Smith and June Butler, both of Colma, Mich.; six brothers, Roy Barnett and Brenda, and Hoyle Barnett and Judy, all of Saltillo, Durrell Barnett and Pam of Nettleton, Billy Barnett and Ruby, and Bobby Barnett and Sue, and Ray Barnett and Francis, all of Saltillo; 18 grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, three stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Barnett and Gertha Sanders Barnett; a sister, Elsie Stanford; and a brother, Troy Lee Barnett.

Pallbearers will be Scott Floyd, Christopher "Pee Wee" Barnett, Greg Barnett, Alan Barnett, Rocky Owens, Billy Miller, James Ray Raines and Kevin Barnett.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jerry Mansell and Gerald Owens.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
