James Joseph, Street, know by family as "Jim", was born in Lincoln County, on March 19, 1924, oldest son of Anderson and Keziah McBride Street. He moved with his family to Hardeman County, Tn when very young and tin 1834 his family moved to the newly opened Indian Territory of North Mississippi and settled on the head waters of North Tippah Creek. He married Married March 2, 1843 Mary "Polly" Ann Morgan and they had eleven children, two dying in infancy. He owned 480 acres of land just north of Antioch Church.
He enlisted March 17, 1862 in the Confederate Army- one of seven brothers- by his brother-in-law, Captain Tanner Huddleston for 3 years or for the duration of the war. He was a private in Co "G" 34th Regiment Mississipppi Infantry. He was slightly wounded in the Battle of Perryville and was sent to the Hospital on April 22, 1863 by the Brigade surgeon. On June 10, 1864 he was captured near Ripley, Mississippi and sent to Alton, Illinois Prison on July 23, 1864 where he was discharged on June 15, 1865 on his oath of allegiance GO #109 War Department from Alton, Illinois. He asked for transportation to Saulsbury, Tennessee. He applied for a pension on September 11, 1911, but it was denied. He died September 7, 1916 and is buried in Antioch Cemetery near his home.
