Lois Mae Benefield Nichols, 79, of Rockmart passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, following several months of declining health. She was born in Bartow County on Oct. 8, 1925 a daughter of the late William Luther Benefield and Fannie Mae Waters Benefield. Mrs. Nichols had been a resident of Rockmart for 61 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. J.C. Nichols and by eight brothers and sisters. Survivors include one son, Mr. Donald Nichols and his wife Shirley of Cedartown; one brother, Mr. Clyde Benefield of Cedartown; one sister, Mrs. Frances Priest of Douglasville; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 25, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Swift and Rev. Reginald Campbell officiating. Interment followed in the Eastview Baptist Church Cemetery in Cedartown with Rev. Grover Thrasher officiating. Pallbearers were Dustin Nichols, Scott Carden, Kenneth Stringer, Hank Cody, Mark Benefield, and Terry Priest. The Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
