RAYVILLE – Services for Mrs. Mary Mhoon Noble Ball, 74, of Rayville, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 1993, in the First United Methodist Church in Rayville with the Rev. Frank Jones and Rev. Stephen Carter officiating. Burial followed at the Union Methodist Church in Charlieville. Mrs. Ball died Sunday, July 25, 1993, at her home following a short illness.

Mrs. Ball, known to her family and close friends as “Mhoonie” was a native of Richland Parish and had lived in Rayville for 46 years. She was born in Charlieville, south of Rayville, the daughter of the late Charles Mark Noble, prominent cotton farmer and member of a pioneer family, and Mrs. Bena Maxwell Hatch Noble of Buckner, La.

She attended Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music. She taught for a brief time in the public schools of Richland Parish. She was a member of the Phi Mu Fraternity, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Rayville Town and Country Service Club. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Rayville, where she directed the choir for more than 20 years.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. James E. Ball of Rayville; one son, Dr. James E. Ball Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn.; four daughters, Mrs. Bea Fancher of Lakeland, Fla., Mrs. Rosemary Lestage of DeRidder, Mrs. Vicki Fruge of Sunset, La., and Mrs. Susan Smart of Holden, La.; one brother, Charles M. Noble, Jr., of Charlieville; one sister, Mrs. Bebe Borden of Monroe; and 13 grandchildren. Pallbearers were Charlie Noble, Charles Whitehurst, Dub Jones, Jay Ball, Glen Richardson, Glenn Murphy, Billy Stodghill, and Bubba O’Neal.
