He served in Co. I of the 125 Ill. Inf. as a sergeant until he died on Nov. 24, 1862 at Regimental Hospital in Edgeville, Tennessee of typhoid fever at the age of 30 yrs., 5 mos. & 17 days. The 1860 Vermilion County, Illinois Census shows he and Polly had at least two sons, George W. and Charles.
His marker reads "U.S.V" at the bottom.
