The back of Carlos' gravestone reads:

Founder of St. Anthony, Father of Fremont County. First justice, postmaster, village board chairman and mayor.

C.H. was born in Le Raysville, PA, served as corporal in Co. A, 10th Illinois Volunteer Infantry 1861-1865. Sarah was born in Centerville, Ohio. They homesteaded in Iowa and Nebraska, ultimately filing in 1887 on 320 acres which became St. Anthony. The townsite was opened for settlement in 1888. In 1893 he led a successful effort to separate Fremont from Bingham County, with St. Anthony as county seat, ensuring development of this city. C.H. and Sarah were known as "Dad and Mother Moon"--generous citizens, kind neighbors, loyal friends.
