Son of James H. Sr. and Lillias (Ellis) Carson.

Husband of Peggy Jean Ennis Carson.

Father of Robert J. Carson.

He lived in Philadelphia until moving to Clayton in 1941.

He attended John Bassett Moore High School in Smyrna until enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17.

Mr. Carson served in the South Pacific theater during World War II, and participated in the invasions of Tinium, Saipan and Okinawa.

After serving five years in the Marine Corps, he returned to Clayton and worked as a technician for Diamond State Telephone Co. for 35 years, and AT&T for three years, before retiring in 1986 with 38 years of service.

In 1974, Mr. Carson was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Clayton Town Council, where he remained for 22 years, serving as mayor for 17 of those years, retiring in 1996.

He was a past president and a 50 year life-member of the Clayton Fire Co., where he also served on the board of directors.

Mr. Carson was a member of Harmony Lodge 13 AF&AM in Smyrna for over 50 years and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was also a member of the American Legion David C. Harrison Post 13, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8801 and the Duck Creek Historical Society, all in Smyrna, and the Marine Corps League. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Smyrna, where he served as a former junior warden.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Peggy (Ennis) Carson, who passed away on June 11, 2006.

Mr. Carson's other hobbies included carpentry and working with his many tools on the several projects he always had going.

He was an avid reader and had previously been active in the Smyrna-Clayton Little League.
