Mrs. Gustavas (Ollie) Dowell was shot by a shot gun rigged in a corn crib at the residence of her mother, Mrs. Albert Lewis, in Springhill. Ollie was shot when she opened a door. Apparently, no one will ever know how she came to make that mistake since the shot gun had been set by her and her husband to scare off a thief that had been stealing corn. Gus and Ollie had only been married about a year and were living with her mother. They planned to move into their own place in just a few days. A group was assembled to investigate the death, presided by Coroner Henderson. The death was ruled as an accident and Gus Dowell, the son of John H. Dowell, was cleared of any guilt.
