George was the son of William and Catherine (Robinault) McCullom. Both of George's parents were born in OH.
At age 16 he learned the plasterer's trade but abandoned this after the War & engaged in farming.
George served during the Civil War in Company H 8th IL Calvary.
His regiment was sent in search of President Lincoln's murderer, John Wilkes Booth.
On Oct. 8, 1865 he married Jane R. St. John who was b. Oct. 20, 1847 in Wauconda Twp.
