Harrison County Sheriff Mike Deatrick said Bridget C. Donahue was alone in her eastbound vehicle when it went off the north side of Ind. 62 near Lanesville.
Deatrick said the vehicle went down an embankment and hit a tree before coming to rest in a stream.
Police found the car, a 1993 Toyota Corolla, at 2:13 a.m.
Deatrick said Donahue suffered extensive injuries and was dead at the scene. He said the investigation is continuing.

Bridget C. Donahue, 24, Lanesville, died Monday, March 12, 2007, as the result of an automobile crash on S.R. 62 west of Lanesville.
Born Sept. 15, 1982, in New Albany, she was an employee of Lee's Chicken in Corydon.
Survivors include her son, Peyton Wigginton of Lanesville; her mother, Mary Donahue of Lanesville; her father, Thomas G. (Greg) Donahue of Raywood, Ky.; a brother, Logan Donahue of Lanesville; and her grandparents, Grace McKnight of Floyds Knobs and Thomas Donahue of Kentucky.
Visitation: Tuesday, March 13, from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday, March 15, after 9 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Prayer service: Wednesday, March 14, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral Mass: Thursday, March 15, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lanesville followed by burial in the church cemetery.
Celebrant: Father Harold Ripperger.
