Mrs. Betty J. Ward Barker, 66, 214 Dennis Cove Road, Hampton, TN, went home to be with her Lord, on Thursday, February 22, 2007, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Barker was a native of Carter County, and was the daughter of the late Fate and Mary Ellen Potter Wilson.
Mrs. Barker had worked for I.T.T. North Electric and was a member of Braemer Baptist Church. She loved taking care of her family and her grandchildren.
Mrs. Barker is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Pam Ward, Elizabethton; Kale and Michelle Ward, Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Blake Ward and Drew Ward, Elizabethton; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Sue and Mike Hawkins of Mount Carmel, TN; Carol Wilson, Hampton, TN; a special aunt, Para Oliver, Elizabethton; special cousins, Wanda Marlow, Jerry Oliver, Bill Oliver, Bernice Hatley, Lowell Harmon, Melba Martin, Barbara Kennedy, L.D. Gilbert and Christine Stout.
The funeral service for Mrs. Barker will be conducted at 7:00 PM, Saturday, February 24, 2007, in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Shane Waters and Dr. Bill Duncan officiating. Music will be under the direction of Dale Williams. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel, Saturday, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, prior to the service and at the residence at other times.
The entombment service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 25, 2007 at Happy Valley Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Greg Hicks, Johnny Lovelace, Dale Campbell, C.B. Hardin, Larry Marlow, Jerry Oliver, Bill Blevins, Bill Oliver, Lee Hubbard and David Ellis. Honorary pallbearers will be Lowell Harmon, Charlie Roller, Carl Ward, Mike Hawkins, Greg Winters, Robert Hughes and Tim McInturff. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:00 PM to go in procession to the cemetery.
