The will of Thomas-3 Treat was drafted on 13 Jun 1709, soon before he departed for military service in Canada.

In addition to describing in general how his lands were to be divided among his heirs, the will was witnessed by two nephews: Richard-3 Goodrich and Thomas-3 Goodrich.

Richard-3 Goodrich has his date of birth, 27 Feb 1685/6, recorded in the vital records of Wethersfield, Connecticut, so at age 23 he was old enough to witness a will.

The dates of birth of his siblings in The Goodrich Family in America (Lafayette W. Case, 1889, p. 37), none of which are found in town vital records, were likely scrambled at some step in compiling and publishing the Goodrich genealogy due to inconsistencies observed in tombstone inscriptions available for most of them (noted by Jacobus in Hale, House and Related Families, 1952, pp. 562-563; 568-573).

Thomas-3 Goodrich could be old enough to witness a will on 13 Jun 1709 if he was the child with published date of birth 03 Aug 1689; the child next in age after Richard-3.

Available tombstone inscriptions for children of Ephraim-2 and Sarah (Treat) Goodrich reveal: 1) Sarah-3 died on 06 May 1795 AE 98; not the published 06 May 1785. Fits published DOB 21 Feb 1697/8, 2) Gideon-3 died on 09 Aug 1769 AE 74; would fit revised DOB 03 Oct 1695 (possibly the published 03 Oct 1699 was a "9" vs. "5" transcription error similar to the "8" vs. "9" transcription error that produced a published date of death 06 May 1785 for Sarah-3 instead of the actual 06 May 1795), 3) William-3 died on 16 Dec 1787 at age 86 (Glastonbury First Congregational transcript record); fits published DOB 27 Sep 1701, and 4) David-3 died on 07 Jun 1779 AE 74; fits published DOB 07 Feb 1705/6.

This leaves DOB 03 Aug 1689 for Thomas-3, who would be near age 20 when he witnessed the will of Thomas-3 Treat, and age 30 when he married Hannah Reynolds on 26 Nov 1719, and leaves DOB 21 Dec 1693 for Ephraim-3 who died on 12 Aug 1771.

Likely namesakes for Richard-3 Goodrich and Thomas-3 Goodrich, given the absence of their first names in 1686-1689 among known descendants, parents and grandparents of Ensign William-1 Goodrich (1622-1676) of Wethersfield, Connecticut, were maternal grandfather Richard-2 Treat (1623-1693) and uncle Thomas-3 Treat (1668-1713).
