Isaiah Harrison; born 1 Feb 1762, Augusta Co., Virginia, son/of Jeremiah & Catherine Harrison. According to a brief biography of Isaiah Harrison's son, Jeremiah Harrison, the parents of his father were Jeremiah & Catherine Adams-Harrison. In 1772, Jeremiah & Katharine deeded land to sons, Nehemiah & (Josiah) Harrison. Then Jeremiah Harrison & family left for Washington Co., Virginia. According to Isaiah's father, Jeremiah Harrison's land records, 1772 was the year of the Harrison family's settlement in Washington County, Virginia.

In 1787, Isaiah Harrison's father, Jeremiah sold his land in Washington County, VA., & migrated to what became Greene Co., Tennessee. Mary REAGAN Harrison died abt. 1796. In Greene, Tennessee, Dec 1796, Isaiah Harrison md. 2nd, Elizabeth Whittenburg.


Microfilm of Greene County Court Minutes, 1783-1796, p161: John Galbreath, undertaken to build court house for this county agreed taxes for years 1791 & 1792... Order that a road be laid off from court house to Comtesses Mill & John Woolsey... Isaiah Harrison...view, mark...& report to next court.

p.223: County of Greene at court house Greeneville, 2nd Mon. Nov 1794: A grand jury to wit: ...Isaiah Harrison...who...took the oath...This proves that abt. 1790, Isaiah Harrison was a pioneer settler of the Harrison Community, 10 miles south of Greeneville, Greene, Tennessee. In 1792, he founded the Harrison (Community Church). The 1st Church Meetings were held in the home of Isaiah Harrison. In his extensive travels, Bishop Asbury regularly visited in Isaiah Harrison's home. In 1808, after death of both parents, Isaiah deeded land for the Meetinghouse, in trust, to George Wells, Stephen Brooks, John Kelly, Sr. & Jr., & John Whittenburg.

"Tennessee Cousins" by Worth Ray: a group of Quakers came over the mountains abt. 1790 to what became Tennessee. Isaiah Harrison represented both Maryville & Hickory Valley Branches of Quakers at 1822 Convention, dealing with abolition of slavery.


This Isaiah Harrison was the grandson of Isaiah Harrison (1666-1738) who 1st married 1788, Oyster Bay, L.I., N. Y., British Colonial America, to Elizabeth WRIGHT, a dau/of Elizabeth TOWNSEND & Gideon Wright. Sources state the Townsends & Wrights belonged to Society of Friends known as Quakers.

On motion of Isaiah Harrison coadministrator is granted him on the estate of John Kelley decd & the said Isaiah Harrison having entered into Bond...of 2000$$ with Jeremiah Harrison & John Meccepin, Security conditioned as the law directs. It is ordered letters issued to him accordingly. ▪︎note▪︎Isaiah Harrison was the father of Eleanor HARRISON Kelley. Isaiah Harrison was also the father of Jeremiah; so, Jeremiah was the brother/of Eleanor Kelly/Kelley

"The story of the Harrison Community is...of pioneers, of House-forts built for protection against Indians...."

"In the days preceeding Revolutionary War the line dividing N.C. & Virginia was not well defined...many early Virginians...were quite surprised...they...lived in North Carolina (when they moved west)."

"One of the early migrant families from Virginia was the Harrison clan. Of the party coming into East Tennessee one of the Harrison men died on the journey from Virginia & his son, Billy was brought into the area by his uncle, Isaiah."

"This family was the ancestors of the president of the United States--William Henry Harrison--born in Virginia in 1773 & his grandson, Benjamin Harrison, Born in Ohio in 1833."

"Billy Harrison settled in...the Harrison Community on the South side of the river....(At what date the log cabin was built is unk), but..his son, James, was born in this home in 1808. This pioneer house has been in the family ever since & was at time this article was written...home of {local historians & scholars {Newton Allie} & his sister Addie Bell Harrison."

"The pioneer home of Billy Harrison...was built...(for) use as a fort against the Indians, as were most of the early homes. The logs were very large & of the hardest oak, capable of stopping...(an)arrow (or) the bullet of the...rifle which the Indian also owned.... there were only 1/2 windows in lower stories..near the ceiling"
