On Thursday Febuary 1st, 2007 surrounded by her family. Wilda Evelyn Phares went home to Jesus. Born November 6th, 1924 in Clarinda, Iowa to George and Mabel Lindley, Wilda was the 6th of nine children. She married Marion H. Phares on April 15th, 1943 and raised seven children. Wilda touched many lives by giving of herself to others. She gave of herself to her husband and children, to her parents and siblings, to friends and strangers. She worked side by side with her husband first on the farm, and then as proprieters of the Phares Nursing Home in Lone Tree Iowa. Before they moved to Lone Tree, she worked as a nurse's aid at Mercy Hospital and later at her mothers Nursing home in Iowa City. They moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1980 where she was active in church ministry helping wherever she could. She enjoyed camping, square dancing, playing pinochle, cooking, candy making, gardening and her family.

Wilda is survived by her seven children, Linda Snodgrass and husband Don of Muscatine, Iowa; Marilee Phares of Dona Ana, New Mexico; Dennis Phares of Kalona, Iowa; Terrence Phares and wife Wanda of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Jerrelyn Weaver and husband Marc of Tipton, Iowa; Robin Phares of Muscatine, Iowa; and Stacy Leach and husband Rick of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Sixteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren. Two sisters: Jean Ludington and Lois Rist, both of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and one brother Harold Lindley and wife Theo of Coralville, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Mabel, her husband Marion, her dearly loved grandson David Schmidt, brothers Merle and Phillip Lindley, and sisters: Nina Jackson, Clarice Warn, and Marjorie Adams.

Wilda will lie in state from 2:00-8:00 pm, Friday, February 2, 2007 and from 8:00-10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Graham's Mortuary, 555 W. Amador, Las Cruces, NM. Visitation with family will be from 6:00-8:00 pm Friday evening. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday morning at Graham's Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Carlos Espinoza officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

A luncheon will be provided by The First Nazerene Church on Locust following the service. Pallbearers will be her nephews. She will be dearly missed by those who have been left behind, but right now there is rejoicing in Heaven.
