Earl arrived in Vietnam 17 February 1969 and was assigned to H&H Company, 28th Assault SPT Helo Battalion, 11th Aviation Group, 1st Calvary Division, USARV.
SFC Overacker died as a result of shrapnel wounds to the body when the base camp was hit by hostile mortar fire.
SFC Overacker served his country for 12 years.
Survived by his wife, Erika Overacker and his 2 children; Edward and Susan Overacker of Savannah, Georgia and his mother; Eloise Marie Carney, and his siblings; Wallace, John, Gene Laurence, Calvin Francis, Jan Mathew, Marge Ann, and Phyliss of Redowel, South Dakota.
Father, Merl Clarence Overacker died in 1960.
