Barney died Jan. 1 in Gallup. He was born Jan. 15, 1922 in Fort Defiance.
Barney was employed with Santa Fe Railroad and retired after 25 years from the Navajo Nation Water Development Department. He was a member of the NAC and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include wife, Martha Arviso; sons, Herman and Ray; daughters, Minnie Ahasteen, Carole Tom, Sadi Roan, Shirley and Lucinda Barney; brother, Eddie Barney; sister, Ethel O'Brien; 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Barney was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Nora Barney; brother, Freddie Barney and sister, Annie Harry.
Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
