Arthur, a longtime resident Los Alamos and formerly of Cebolla, passed away shortly before 5:00 PM at the Los Alamos Medical Center.

Arthur was a Los Alamos Fireman. He was responding to a rescue call overlooking Los Alamos Canyon. A Los Alamos hiker had called for help from a ledge over the canyon. Arthur had slipped and fell down a steep incline. He was treated at the scene before he was transported to the Medical Center. The hiker was rescued without injury.

Arthur was survived by his wife Vivian; 3 daughters: Katharine, Carolyn, and Lisa Gurule of the home; his parents Maclovio and Nestora Gurule of Cebolla; 5 brothers: Maclovio Jr. of Cebolla, Flavio of Pojoaque, Carlos of Bloomfield, Alvino of Los Alamos, and Candido of Española; 8 sisters: Erlinda of Trinidad, Colorado; Rebecca Lovato and Loyola Romero of La Mesilla, Bertha Rivera of Ensenada, Minnie Pacheco of Santa Cruz, Prescilla Salazar of Lumberton, and Esther and Mary of the Cebolla home; and many other relatives.

Arthur joined the DOE Protective Force at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1976. In 1982 he transfered to the Fire Department.

Funeral services were held 21 Dec 1983 at the Sacred Heart Church in Española. Burial followed at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with full military honors.
