"Darling Whitney was born in Stamford Connecticut 25 Sep 1758, he died 14 Nov 1834, New York City. His parents are Daniel and Hester (Clason)Whitney.

It is said he (Darling) enlisted, when eighteen years old, in the American Army and served at West Point, later, went with a tory to whom he was apprenticed. They went to Long Island, and remained there never to finish his trade. Settling as a farmer, at East Woods, now the Village of Woodbury, Oyster Bay, Long Island.
The records of St. George's Episcopal Church at Hampstead, L.I. show that Darling Whitney of Hampstead, married 14 Jan 1779, Sarah Valentine of Oyster Bay born 29 Dec 1757, daughter of Robert Valentine of Oyster Bay and great grand daughter of Richard Valentine, who came from Lancashire, England.
She Died at East Woods,03 Jul 1821.
Darling next married Catherine ?????? date not given, who survived him and died it is thought at Albany N.Y.
Darling was a Major in the War of 1812 and was for sometime stationed at Ft. Green in Brooklyn, N.Y. under General Johnson.
In May 1819, Darling sold his farm to his son, and removed to New York City. Where he engaged himself as a grocer.
Darling died at the corner of Attorney and Stanton Sts., New York, 14 Nov 1834, and was buried in Fountain Hill Cemetery, Oyster Bay Long Island." Fountain Hill Cemetery was formally named Whitney Buring Ground.
