Sp4 John Carl Rodgers, Vietnam Veteran and native of Cross Creek, NC, resident of Lumberton, NC
Specialist Four John Carl Rodgers was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SP4 Rodgers served our country until August 18th, 1969 in Bing Long, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. It was reported that John died from multiple fragmentation wounds. His body was recovered. John was born on November 8th, 1949 in Cross Creek, North Carolina. SP4 Rodgers is on panel 19W, line 063 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.

Part of 1/11th Cav C Troop: I was just re-reading my journal from those days Aug. 15th 1969 in BINH LONG. I noted the Mortar Track was hit and everyone but Rick, your TC was hurt. I learned you died three days later. I wish I had a picture of you to post. So many young men so easily forgotten. But I haven't forgotten you my brother. I see from the wall that you were a Baptist so I will see you in a joyous reunion with Jesus. P.S. Lt Thomas called we after 38 years and told me to look at Barns and Noble Books under NAM a photo journal. Our troop is on page 403. He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Bronze Star Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters with "V" Device for Valor, The Purple Heart Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
