Luther Appley was born on 15 Nov 1790 in Canterbury, Windham Co, CT, the youngest of eight children born to James Appley and Abigail Williams.

He emigrated to Damascus Township, Wayne Co, PA in 1808 and began the practice of medicine.

He married Miss Phoebe Land in 1810 in Damascus, Wayne Co, PA, the eldest of eleven children born to the union of John Scott Land and Lillian Skinner.

Luther and Phoebe had eight children: William Land, Louise, Abigail R., Theodore, Teressa Lillian, Luther and Marcus.

Phoebe died on 19 Aug 1834 in Damascus, Wayne Co, PA, aged 47 Years 2 Months 18 Days.

After Phoebe's death he married Miss Mary L. Effinger on 03 Oct 1838 in Damascus, Wayne Co, PA.

Luther and Mary had a daughter Adalaide Josephine in 1843.

Luther died on 20 Oct 1853 in Damascus, Wayne Co, PA, aged 62 Years 11 Months 5 Days.

Although there is a gravestone here in Glen Dyberry Cemetery, Honesdale, Wayne Co, PA, with his second wife and daughter, there is also a gravestone in Hillside Cemetery, Damascus, Wayne Co, PA, in the family plot with his first wife and children (See Find A Grave Memorial No. 9184005).
