Erskine Pryor lived his whole life in West Virginia. Mostly Wheeling West Virginia. Wheeling is right on the Ohio river. Erskine was a cigar maker by trade. He learned this trade at a very early age. The 1870 Census shows Erskine at age 16 living next door to a cigar maker. In these times children were often used in the manufacturing of cigars. Through all the following census, even on his death certificate, his occupation was stogie maker.
