Laurene E. Churchill, age 88, of Dexter, Minn., died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center.
Laurene was born July 9, 1918, to Volney Davis and Theckla (Stier) Davis in Austin, Minn. She attended and graduated from Grand Meadow High School and attended one year of Normal School. She then started teaching in country schools. On Oct. 9, 1946, she was united in marriage to Sheldon Churchill at St. Finbarr Catholic Church in Grand Meadow, and together they farmed in the Dexter area.
Laurene was a member of St. Finbarr Catholic Church and its altar society. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, playing cards, playing scrabble and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Sheldon, of Dexter, Minn.; six children: Linda (Ronald) Alberts, of Rochester, Minn.; Irene Gormley, of Glencoe, Minn.; Barb (Mike) Smith, of Ankeny, Iowa; Steve (Marie) Churchill, of Dexter, Minn.; Marylou (Tom) Bryson, of Vancouver, Wash.; and Sandy (Tim) Gallagher, of Buffalo, Minn. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray (Linda) Davis and Glen and Mary Ann Davis; and two sisters, Teresa (Truman) Nelson and Marcella Spellman, all of Grand Meadow, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and three brothers.
Funeral mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at St. Finbarr Catholic Church with the Rev. Steve Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Hindt Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. today, and one hour prior to the service at the church. The rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m.
