Glenn R. Bailey Dies of Injuries
Injuries suffered in an automobile accident over a month ago proved fatal Sunday to 58-year-old Glenn R. Bailey, of Mediapolis. Bailey died in Burlington hospital at 9:15 a.m. He was injured February 28, when his automobile reportedly struck the parked car of Damon E. Boston, 704 South Tenth street, near the intersection of Mt. Pleasant and Chalfant streets.
Bailey was thrown out of the machine.
A native of Kossuth, Bailey was born August 8, 1891, the son of David and Edna Bailey. The family moved to Kewanee, Illinois, when he was a boy, and he lived there for many years. He was married at Kewanee to Pearl Burgus in 1915.
At the time, he was admitted to the hospital, Mrs. Bailey was also hospitalized, suffering from a broken arm.
In addition to Mrs. Bailey, Bailey leaves 5 children: Robert and Mary Lou Bailey, both of Rock Island, Illinois; Wayne Bailey, Boston, Massachusetts; Mrs. Barbara Teeter, Fairfield, and Margaret Bailey, Macon, Missouri.
Also surviving are a brother, Clyde Bailey, St. Louis; a sister, Mrs. Blanche Chapman, Burlington, Vermont, and 2 grandchildren.
A long-time employee of the Mediapolis New Era, Bailey suffered an arm injury while working around the press which necessitated amputation of the arm about 10 years ago. He had since worked at the Iowa Ordnance Plant and had been night watchman at the Benner Tea company.
Last rites will be held at the Fry funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Officiating will be Reverend Edward Mohr, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Burial will be in Kossuth cemetery.
