She was the daughter of Gertrude Ellen (Cobbs) and Oliver Nelson WAMPLER.

On September 18,1941 Gertrude married Alonzo "Lon" McKINNEY in Glendale, CA.

Their children are one son, Mark Milam, and one daughter, Marcia Ellen.

Mary Ellen McKinney, 87, Carthage, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, in McCune-Brooks Hospital, Carthage, Mo. Mrs. McKinney was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Carthage to Oliver Nelson Wampler and Gertrude Ellen (Cobbs) Wampler. She was a graduate of Webb City High School, class of 1936, and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She married Alonzo (Lon) McKinney on Sept. 18, 1941, in Glendale, Calif. Mrs. McKinney was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Carthage, where she served as a deacon and a member of the Presbyterian Women's Association. She was a member of the McCune-Brooks Hospital Auxiliary, the Tri Cosmos Women's Association, the Montre Investment Club and the Society of Mayflower Descendants. She served as a republican delegate to the state convention in Springfield and St. Louis, Mo. Survivors include her husband, Lon, of the home; one son, Mark Milam McKinney and wife, Jan, Norman, Okla.; one daughter, Marcia Ellen Davis and husband, Al, Richardson, Texas; and four grandchildren, Stephanie Ellen Southerland, Jennifer Randolph, Christopher Randolph and Marc Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother,
Nelson Wampler. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, in the First Presbyterian Church, Carthage. Rev. Matthew Roberts will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Webb City, MO. Memorial gifts are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in care of Knell Mortuary, Carthage.
