Born at "Bunker Hill." He married Elizabeth "Betty" Pollard Fleet. He graduated Colombian College, then conducted a mercantile business. He was a magistrate of his county. Previous to the War he was Colonel of Militia. He was appointed Major of the 4th Virginia Artillery in November, 1862. At the Battle of Seven Pines he and his took a Yankee cannon and turned it effectively on them as they fled. His horse was shot from under him there. It was known that he several times dispatched a foe with a blast from his pistol. He was severely wounded around Petersburg in 1865. His portrait hangs in the King and Queen County Courthouse.
