Another Old Resident Passes to Her Long Rest
At 2 o'clock Sunday morning Mrs. G. W. Parks died at her home in this city and the funeral services were held from her late home Monday afternoon, Rev. Kent officiating. Mrs. Parks, whose maiden name was Rebecca Copeland, was born at Waterford, Louden [Loudoun] County, Va, June 2, 1816. Looking back to that time recalls to mind how much of the history of the world has been made since her infancy. The map of the world has been totally changed, empires have risen and fallen, science has made most of its conquests and invention recreated the methods of living upon totally new standards. In early life the deceased joined the Methodist church. She was married to G. W. [George Washington] Parks [Jr.] Sept. 21, 1836. The family moved to Ohio, then in 1855 to Bloomington, Ills., and two years later to Freemont County, this state [Iowa - where her brother John Copeland Jr. lived]. After a residence there of two years Mr. and Mrs. Parks went to Plattsmouth, Neb., where they lived eight years. In spring of 1865 they came to Hardin County where they have since resided. At that time Mrs. Parks had a sister [Mary Ann COPELAND Penn] living here and that induced them to come but the sister died in two weeks after their arrival. The deceased was the mother of four children, the first born dying in infancy. The three who survive are C. A. Parks and Mrs. Annie E. Willcox [wife of William Vance Willcox] of Des Moines, and F. M. Parks of St. Joe, Mo.
