King Solomon Chancey was born during the Civil War in Early county, Georgia. The story goes that his 14 year old mother, Nanny Chancey, fell in love with a man beneath her station, as a planter's daughter, that she ran away to marry this man (possibly horse groomer or sharecropper), and her father (the sheriff of the county) went after her and brought her back. There is another story that Soloman's father was related but neither story is substantiated.

King Soloman Chancey was shot while plowing a field, a person was convicted of his death. King Solomon died before his only child was born & her mother married Judge John Hill. John Hill raised Grandma Artie King Smith as his own, and was the only father she knew.

King's grandfather (Solomon Chancey) died when he was two years old. Jimmy Swan was the Irish immigrant his mother married after coming to Texas.

Wedding certificate from Angelina County for Mr. King Chancy and Miss Susanah Jordan in Homer, Texas (county seat at that time) June 30, 1891. Wedding was July 1, 1891 and performed by Justice of the Peace of Angelina county, R. Birdsong. This certificate is in Lufkin Public Library in the Chancy genealogy file. William Bonney (my uncle) placed it in library).
