March 8, 1902 issue of Illinois State Register: Athens, Ill., March 7 - George A. Ball, for the past sixteen years a resident of this city and a respected citizen, died this morning at his home of neuralgia of the heart. He was 42 years of age, and came to Athens from the state of Virginia. At the time of his death he was one of the two alderman representing the Third ward in the city council of Athens. The funeral will be held from the Presbyterian church at 2 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. D. G. Carson, officiating. Burial in West cemetery. Deceased leaves a wife and one child.
