James A. Davis, third child of John H. Davis and Margareta A. Wasson, was born December 26, 1873 near Thayer and passed away May 4, 1950 at his home in Thayer, aged 76 years, 4 months
He was married to Alice Lee Wooldridge November 11, 1891 and to this couple, eight children were born. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, one sone, Herbert J. Davis of Memphis and three daughters, Mrs. L.A. Wyatt of this city; Mrs. H.A. Nelson of Oklahoma City; and Mrs. Aileen Field of West Memphis, Ark.' one brother, Ben Davis of Thayer, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was baptised into the Methodist Church many years ago and has always been a faithful and devoted member. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows and International Assoc of Machinists and was a faithful and proud member of both orders. Funeral services were held May 7 in the Methodist Church with Rev. H.T. Payne officiating. Burial in the Davis Cemetery under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
