The son of Andrew & Catherine (Little) Bigham, in 1860 he was a farmer living in Hamiltonban Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. He stood 6' 0" tall and had dark hair and gray eyes. He married Elizabeth Frey and fathered Susan Malinda (b. @1863 - married J. William Carbaugh), Mary Catherine (b. 12/12/69, d. 02/03/72), John Henry (b. 05/10/66), and Cornelius Grant (b. 10/07/68).
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of thirty in Harrisburg September 3, 1864, mustered into federal service there September 5 as a private with Co. K, 184th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 2, 1865. His brother James served in the same company.
His birth date also reported as August 21 and date of death as September 7, but no obituary was found in any online newspaper archive.
