Freda was born April 23, 1889, in Humboldt, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Benz.

She grew up and attended school in Humboldt, and on January 1, 1909, was united in marriage to Nels Knutson. The couple lived in the Milroy area for more than 60 years. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Milroy, and the ALCW.

Freda passed away March 13, 1982 in the Weiner Memorial Nursing Home in Marshall.

Survivors include two sons: Walter of Sandusky, Ohio, and Harold of Portland, Oregon, and four daughters: Mrs. Erma Nelson, Cottonwood; Mrs. Ernest (Dorothy) Dexter, Correll; Mrs. Peter (Alice) Verdeck, Marshall; and Mrs. Thomas (Irene) Zeilenga of Chicago.

Freda is also survived by 23 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Alice Wiuff, of Tracy, and other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, two brothers, one daughter, and one son.

Funeral services were held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Milroy, with the Rev. Donald Comnick, pastor, officiating. Pallbearers were Bruce Snyder, Charles Tomasek, Ron Jensen, Harlan Solseth, Ray Dunterman and Aaron Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Walter Jensen, Carl Rolland, LeRoy Verdeck and Harry Mickelson. Interment was made in Mound Cemetery, Ortonville.
