In addition to the Roll Call of the Dead, there are four panels of text which we shall reproduce for you here.

There is a bronze plaque on the base of the monument that reads:

THIS MOMUMENT IS DEDICATED TO THESE SOLDIERS AND ALL SOLDIERS WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES DEFENDING OUR COUNTRY.

The four panels read:
(1)A MEMORIAL TO THE UNRETURNED SOLDIERS OF THIS VICINITY IN THE WAR FOR THE UNION 1861-1865 BY COMRADES AND FRIENDS 188(?)7

(2)THE WAR HAS ESTABLISHED UPON IMPERISHABLE FOUNDATIONS THE GREAT AND FUNDAMENTAL TRUTH OF THE UNITY AND INDIVISABILITY OF THE NATION. WE ARE MANY STATES BUT ONE PEOPLE HAVING ONE UNDIVIDED SOVEREIGNITY, ONE FLAG AND ONE COMMON DESTINY. --OLIVER P. MORGAN

(3)THESE HEROES ARE AT REST. THEY DIED FOR US. THEY SLEEP IN THE LAND THEY MADE FREE AND UNDER THE FLAG THEY MADE STAINLESS. THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL BE IN EVERLASTING REMEMBRANCE.

On Fames eternal camping ground
Their silent tents are Spread
And Glory guards with solemn round The Bivouac of the Dead

(This last is from a famous poem)

(4)LET US BE HIGHLY RESOLVED THAT THESE DEAD SHALL NOT HAVE DIED IN VAIN, THAT UNDER GOD THE NATION SHALL HAVE A NEW BIRTH OF FREEDOM AND THAT GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE SHALL NOT PERISH FROM THE EARTH --ABRAHAM LINCOLN
