Joseph W. Hartranft, 80, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Monday, October 18, 2004 at Manor Care, Carlisle. Mr. Hartranft was born in Goldsboro, Maryland on June 3, 1924, the son of the late William and Alice (Heacock) Hartranft. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church Mechanicsburg. He was an avid bowler, a former Little League Coach and Scout Master. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a Prisoner of War. He was the widower of Mary V. (Sabadish) Hartranft. He is survived by a daughter, Anna, wife of David J. Lavertue of Mechanicsburg, and 2 granddaughters. He was preceded in death by 2 sons. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 25th, with Father Chester P. Snyder officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Viewing will be Monday from 10 to 10: 45 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Manor Care, 940 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle, PA 17013, or to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 400 East Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Arrangements entrusted to Myers Funeral Home of Mechanicsburg.
