The Rev. Donald A. Bean, 70, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005 in DartmouthHitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, N.H. Born Dec. 1, 1934, in Burlington, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Gingras) Bean. He attended Cathedral High School, St. Michael's College, University Seminary, St. Paul's Seminary, and Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis, Mo. He was ordained to the priesthood on March 30, 1963, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception by Bishop Robert F. Joyce. Following his ordination, he served in the diocese of Santa Fe., N.M., until 1970. His priestly ministry in Vermont began as parochial vicar at Our Lady of Seven Dolors, Fair Haven (1970-1971). He also served on the faculty at Mount St. Joseph Academy (1971-1975). In 1975, he was excardinated from the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and incardinated in the Diocese of Burlington. He served as Administrator at St. Jerome, East Dorset, and St. Bridget, West Rutland, in 1975, and administrator at St. Alphonsus, Pittsford in 1979. In 1980, he served as administrator at Our Lady of Seven Dolors. His first pastorate was at St. Jude, Hinesburg (1980-1994). Father Bean also served on the Diocesan Ecumenical Commission and as a Diocesan Consultor. In 1994, he retired because of ill health. Father Donald is survived by cousins, friends and brother priests. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's CoCathedral in Burlington by Most Reverend Salvatore R. Matano, bishop of Burlington. The homilist will be The Rev. Richard G. Lavalley. Interment will follow in the family lot at New Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday, Dec. 1, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., Winooski.
