Funeral services for John C. Parks, 55, Abilene cafe owner and the man for whom the Roscoe baseball field is named, was to be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church in Roscoe. Burial will be in the Roscoe Cemetery with Kiker-Warren Funeral Home of Abilene in charge.

Mr. Parks, owner of the A&H Cafe at 277 Chestnut St., was polishing his car behind his cafe when he was stricken with a heart attack about 3 p.m. and was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Ann Hospital. His wife, who was helping him, immediately summoned an ambulance to no avail.

Born April 9, 1897 at Cisco, Mr. Parks moved to Scranton with his parents when a child. The family moved to Abilene in 1913.

He enlisted in the Army during World War I and served with the 36th Division. He received five battle stars for his part in five major campaigns. After the war moved to Roscoe where he engaged in barbering, farming and the cafe business.

He married the former Arah Lee Meyer of Sweetwater in 1931. For two years, he was deputy sheriff of Nolan County under Sheriff Jess Lambert.

He moved to Abilene four years ago and operated the City Cafe across from the old post office building on North Third St. for three years. He had operated the A&H Cafe for the past year.

Mr. Parks attended Simmons College prior to World War I and was outstanding in football and baseball. He was manager of a Roscoe baseball club shortly after the first World War. He started a campaign to raise funds for a new ball park there. It was named Parks Field in his honor. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Sgt. O. C. Parks of Carswell A.F.B., Fort Worth; his mother, Mrs. G. W. Parks of Roscoe; two brothers, George of Roscoe and Herman of Dallas; four sisters, Mrs. A. I. Skiles of Georgetown, Ky., Mrs. Ora Parker of Kingsville, Mrs. L. B. Dawson of Corpus Christi, and Mrs. H. G. Griffith of Atlanta, Ga.

Pallbearers will be Pat Cooper, Grinell Dutton, both of Abilene, Bill Tucker of Sweetwater, C. M. Farmer, W. R. Potter and R. P. Potter, all of Roscoe.
