Valecia Alexander, 39, of the 800 block of Cannonade Trail, departed this life for her eternal home September 4, 2006. Valecia who was affectionately known as "Val", was a native of Norfolk, VA. Val is survived by her husband, Thomas A. Surles; stepson, Christopher Jones; mother, Ellen K. Alexander of Norfolk, VA; aunt, Johanna Bailey and her husband George of Grottoes, VA; two brothers, Charles L. Alexander of Virginia Beach, VA and William E. Alexander of Chesapeake, VA; several cousins; and a large extended family in the VB911 division. Val graduated from Booker T. Washington, Class of 1985. She was an employee with the VB911 division for 15 years, before retiring in April 2006. Val attended Virginia Beach Beacon Baptist Church. A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2006, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel by the Pastor Gordon Ellsworth and the Rev. Donald Staton. Burial will follow at Colonial Grove Memorial Park. Family and friends will receive visitors following the service at Virginia Beach Beacon Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 10 to 12 noon and 7 to 9 p.m. The family request donations be sent in honor of Val to your local rescue squad. Special thanks to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad for always being there when called. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
